The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

There is no form of online shop on there. Unless you went off, and looked at other peoples work.

I am just showing off a illustration.

It looks like it's been done in the style of a map that has contour lines.

Sorry, I did not see that bit. That bit does lead you to other peoples work though.

Sorry for sounding Cynical and uniformed, but can't you just run existing photos of people in photoshop-esq software and come up with the same results - that is a publicity shot of Chris after all. Not saying it doesn't look impressive, but from someone with limited knowledge of the area, it seems anyone can do it? Can you expand on how you actually made that Mr. Joke-Art please?

There's a fair bit more detail on it than there would be if a standard photoshop filter was applied. You can tell by the hair and beard (i think the beard is the weakest part btw, it's too thick and defined).

I think it's good. The contrast of the colours on the face is maybe a bit much.

I've thought that before, when Chris has been on telly.

I think the pic is actually quite good.

Each coloured shape is individualy draw using a Wacom A6 Tablet and Adobe Illustrator CS2. I have five main layers (skin tone, beard, hair, shirt, background), with many sub layers. Its taken 3-4 hours to do it.

Here is a finished illustration I do a while back:

This is the illustration in outline. This is to show all the shapes that drawn to make one portrait:

I get it all the time, "is it photoshoped?" Which is not nice to hear. I have no problem with people like liking it, just wish everyone did not jump to the same conclusion. Then again I never mentioned on here, what software I used and the process. So you where not ment to know.

Picture is not for sale. Its just fan art. Done it for fun. Just like most the other people I have on there.

You can down load a 24inch x 24inch copy of it. If you like it on that site. Just press the download button. You just get a jpeg file and no other stuff.

I suppose I can see that that would be frustrating, but then again like I said in my original post I was completely ignorant to the process which is why I asked and now I know - although in my defense it is the exact same pose as the publicity shot, so it is a reasonable concludion.

Thanks for telling me though , sounds like a lot of work to create something which really does look good - and something which I don't have the patience or knowledge to do and so I do admire your results. keep it up

Gaspode_The_Wonder_Dog wrote:But surely theres no real talent to it like with real art? I mean its the computer doing the work really.

The computer does not do all the work! I do all the work and the software helps arrange and save its really.

I do digital art. Which is art. Other do paintings, drawing water colours and so on. But each person has there own way of doing things.

I only came on here to show the picture. I did not realise I would have to discuss what is art, and justify what I do with my time.

Hmm I guess its like composing music on a computer you tell it the notes and it puts them in order. But it just doesn't feel right with pictures.

Anything that is created is art...whether by a "well known" artist or a 6 yr old. It's all art. People like different things, and thats good. After all, the world would be a boring place if we all liked the same things.

At least it's not just a paint splattered canvas...see, thats art I don't "get"!

You don't have to discuss anything if you don't want to

This is a video that shows the process the best way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRoMcpZGv_w
Its done in photoshop, but its drawn the same way I do mine (different style though).

Gaspode_The_Wonder_Dog wrote:hmm its kind of like a more advanced tracing then really isn't it?

In a way its does have some sort of tracing element. But no protrait done this way would ever be the same as the next person to it. Everyone puts there own mark on it, and does it there own way.

Its not a easy software to use (not cheap either), and not everyone can even use a pen tool or even know where to start on a portrait like that. Even I couldn't use it for a year or two back in college. I ended up teaching myself.
