The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Ok, I know a couple of people who were there so I know that the Big Weekend was absolutely brilliant. But as always, I was disappointed - I can't understand why Radio 1 can't actually broadcast it live over the weekend - or at least some of it. There was the occasional recorded bit of a live set played, but most annoying of all is when they talk about how brilliant someone's set was, and then play the studio version of one of their songs. Still doing it today, yes they played a bit of Stereophonics set, and I'm sure they'll play loads of recorded highlights - but I switched on this morning to a recording of Chris chatting with Natasha Bedingfield, and the studio version of her song. So irritating. I didn't have a chance to look at any of the TV coverage, what was that like?

I know its going to be like that because it always is, but they hype it up so much beforehand I always hope we are actually going to get to hear some of it live on the radio....and we never do.

I agree, though I can understand why they wouldn't broadcast it live as it happens (especially during the day), however, it would be good to hear big chunks of it at once, like someone's complete set.

Was that not what the "red button" was for? Each time I pressed it there was a live stream to the event.

Tv and Online coverage was brilliant. Agree about the Radio coverage though, was rubbish.

"Jamie-T is on stage now, here's Outkast with Hey-Ya" hmm

I couldn't get to a TV all weekend, but they have been talking it up as a Radio event for so long now, I had hoped.........

Ohhh, you realise after Chris's big speech a minute ago he is gonna see this thread and start saying that we moan about everything again!

No, he likes it when we moan about him, not Radio 1.

Ach, just saying how amazing the weekend was and how only the BBC can do it and thanks to everyone who helped out.

And sorry to those who couldn't make it, but the online and tv features at least let you feel like you are a part of it.

Well like I said, the people I know who were there confirm that it was absolutely brilliant, and thats what it is about really, you can't fault the BBC for putting on such a spectacular festival - I am just concerned that they give the impression in the preceding weeks that we are going to be able to listen to it on the radio over the weeeknd - and actually we can't.

Someone has just mentioned to me that the live stream to the event was similar to the radio coverage in that it consisted mainly of presenters chatting and clips - no real live coverage of the bands. Although I didn't see it, this is second hand information and may be wrong.

They've done absolutely everything with this amazing festival except broadcast the damn thing!

Maybe it was incase of abusive language or something that might offend, thats usually a reason for people not broadcasting stuff live.

They played the foo fighters set from Sunderland live. They just warned before it that there was going to be bad language, don't listen if your offended.

I heard The Futureheads live from Sunderland too, now I think about it - that was brilliant, I love the Futureheads.

Won't you all stop moaning !

There really isn't pleasing some people.

Personally I thought it was all about right, I do not want to listen to one band play 6 tracks live, lets face it, if your not there it sounds rubbish. If I wanted to watch it I would have to get digital, or I could have viewed it on line, but I didn't want to.

My observations for what they are worth.

Sarah Cox is funny
Moyles was tired and grumpy today
Dave got his end away and was happy chappy
It will be nice when they are all back to normal, personally I wouldn't have liked to have "worked" over the weekend and have to travel back today and work the rest of the week.

WTF is Mills ! & no Plackard waving Jono's as it's not his home town !

charlalottie wrote:It's like when they are broadcasting from Glastonbury though. They have all the presenters there, doing all these interviews and features of the festivals and you can hear some music from the event but thats usually only as background noise or if they have got a band to do a "backstage session".

But at least Glastonbury is a festival that you have to pay to go to - so I can understand why it might not be do-able to broadcast it live on the radio.

Yes there is. I'm very pleased the BBC has staged this remarkable free event, its unique and amazing that they do it. I'm not pleased that for the last few weeks they have been giving me the impression that I will be able to listen to it on the radio (which, unlike you, I would have been pleased about) and that they are still talking about the amazing performances given in Preston and then playing too many studio versions of the tracks.

I think Chirs suggested this this morning, record the digital chanell onto Disk from I think it was 1.15pm, to 9.15pm, then you will get all the acts in full.

Great - but I would have liked them to broadcast it live over the weekend, like they seemed to be implying they were going to do!

I would like a quad bike, and someone to cut my grass, as well as planning permission for 28 flats in my field.

I would also like a bigger willy, and a six pack, and not to smoke anymore.

I would like world peace, and end to hunger, and a ban on body piercing and tattoo's.

I would like Motorcycles banned, and Lorries only to travel at night, I would like a trully free NHS including prescriptions and the Dentist, and I would like to Retire, with no money worries and live until I am 102.

But most of all, I want the Willy !

I think I have about as much chance as you of getting what I want, I suppose we will just have to be happy with what we have got instead.

Sorry Yud's, not meaning to Argue with you, I'll shut up now !
