From The Sun Online :
A THIEF who stole a vicious parrot from a pet shop was nabbed after the bird savagely pecked him, leaving a trail of incriminating blood at the scene.
Tristan Maidment, 23, appeared before magistrates in Frome, Somerset, after police got his DNA from blood left after the attack by Micky the macaw.
Maidment, from Edington, Wiltshire, broke into the Frome Pet and Aquatic Centre and stole the bird, which owner Angus Hart described as a "grumpy old git with a vicious temper".
The blue and gold bird is believed to be about 50 years old.
Prosecutor Lesley Ness told the court Maidment claimed the parrot, worth £500, was sold by his accomplice in Bristol.
Miss Ness said: "Scenes-of-crime officers recovered blood from the area surrounding the macaw’s cage. Analysis of that blood led to the identification of this defendant."
The court heard the bird was taken to Maidment’s home in the middle of the night and kept in a “very cramped” cage in his bedroom, "squawking as if distressed".
Maidment - who has a drink problem - told police he could not remember being bitten by the bird but admitted he had been boozing before the break-in.
He said his accomplice must have taken the bird to his house before being taken to Bristol and sold.
Maidment admitted burglary and animal cruelty offences.
Magistrates adjourned sentence for Maidment to meet probation service officers.
He was remanded in custody until August 3.
Mr Hart, 45, who has owned Micky for the last 10 years, had put up signs in the shop warning the bird may bite.
The bird was a popular attraction in the town.
Mr Hart and his wife Jayne, 47, have run the pet shop for 20 years and were given Micky by a friend in the business when he retired.
