so, this is all for a friend. seriously. we both work for the same small library on a big big campus. (guess which one!) i'm a full time career staff emlpoyee who gets paid decently (though little) and has full benefits. he's just been promoted from student emlpoyee to contract full time staff, with full benefits, but his pay hasn't changed at all. he makes about $12 an hour, or $2000 a month pre-tax. the whole position is a little weird. nothing has really been said about it. i assumed he'd be getting a raise as well, but i guess that wasn't the case.
should he talk to somebody about it? if so, who? our HR people are helpless. our direct boss might be good, but i'm afraid he'll try too hard to avoid conflict and not say anything that will make my friend leave. i told my frien he needs to ask about it, but also look for other jobs, but he's afraid it might be duplicitious.
