lampard has been far from his usual self in englands recent games. as for john terry the guy is fantastic, a strong possibility for the next england captain i think. joe cole dosent stop working, his goal the other day has to be the best of the tournament and he did well to set up gerrard.

By recent games do you mean the three WC games, or games before that? Don't forget that Lampard was our leading scorer in the qualifiers so you can't go back too far. I admit that he hasn't been great in the WC so far, but other than Cole I don't think ANY player for England has played well

yes i mean the world cup games we have played so far.
john terry has played well in it so far. the sweeden game was not our best but sol campbell was to blame for that late on equaliser.

It does seem to me that Lampard is just taking shots from 30yrds out, he doesn't want to get any closer. I think he's trying to score a really great goal that'll be shown on TV again and again.

Shame Van Persie's free kick beat him to it, even on the replay it looked like it'd been fired out of a cannon.

I think you'll find that most confident attacking midfielders do that. Kaka, van Bommel, Maxi Rodriguez etc...
It's just that Frank hasn't beaten the keeper yet. I'm sure that if he scored everyone would be happy enough, know matter how the goals comes

i think the problem is that he's had plenty of chances to score and has come up with nothing. maybe he should let somebody else try to be the hero.

To be fair, I think that could be said about most of the team, what with them scoring 6 goals in 4 games

Lampard does seem to hit and hope, and it's not coming to much. Joe Cole and Lennon seem to have done really well for England, he should let Lennon start.

Lampard is awesome. Have you not been watching him play, or have you kept your eyes shut the whole time. His played brilliantly.

That's true, he's better when playing for Chelsea. I was anoyed with him when he had a great chance to score at the weekend and missed, no defenders around and he just hooks it...

I'm sure when he does finally score it will be a blinder but I just think he should stop taking pot shots...

True but just taking pot shots is like throwing a lot of s* at the wall and hoping some of it sticks. We need a surgical strike with a scalpal, not a whack over the head with a club.

That said If we keep relying on free kicks and corners to score goals like the last game we'll need all the potshots we can get in the hope that one finally does go in.

with one up front gerrard and lampard have to have shots. thats the whole point of rooney up there on his own. to win the ball and hold it up for support from midfield. just rooney up front he isnt going to get many shots when the ball is played into his gfeet as its gonna be difficult for him to turn and shoot as both centre backs will be on bim basically.

But they weren't, 9 times out of 10 he was just on his own surrounded by a gang of defenders, and there was that time in the second half when both rooney and Lampard were in a perfect place to score, and neither took it. Well lampard just whacked the ball from 15yrds out miles off course.

Definatley, (quick get a camera, two people agreeing on this forum) but who else? My mate even suggested playing Gerrard up front. Still not convinced by Crouch and i'm sure Theo Walcott is wondering what on earth he's doing there.

The Theo thing is confusing. If Defoe was there instead he'd be in the team now playing with Rooney. I just can't see Rooney and Crouch playing together, both drop off to pick the ball up from deep.

yep we need an out and out striker, like owen really but good!

walcott is a winger really i think, defoe would be good.

Defoe and Wright-Phillips not going is absolutely ridiculous. Defoe had a blinding season, what more do you need to do for a call-up. As for Lampard, I would criticise him if he missed a shot and the opponents broke into a converted attack, but as it is, England have looked quite comfortable (although against poor opponents) and so if we're winning the game, why not try a long shot?
