After 42 years Top Of The Pops will be no more, the growth of 24 hour music channels, the internet, mp3 players and dwindling singles sales has made it a complete irrelevance, before that it was an appointment to see your favourite bands and singers perform on TV once a week, the last ever show will air on BBC2 on July 30th, are you happy or sad to see it go?

At first I was sad to hear it go, as it is such a recognised and respected brand within tv. However I then realised that I am one of probably millions of people who will feel sad for its demise yet rarely, if ever, watch the show. Therin lies the problem

Shame to see it go but the Kudos of appearing on TOTP must've faded long ago. The birth of the music video lead to the downfall of such shows. Sad but progress.

Bands used to dream about appearing on Top fo the Pops, and a good few years ago I made my weekly appointemtn to watch my favourite bands.

These days they just get any crap song and put it on there 'cos all the decent bands are off at festivals or having a "behind the scenes" documentary of themselves filmed in Los Angeles or don't want to appear on a programme that has definately lost it kudos. Crazy Bl***y Frog indeed!

My weekly appointment is now with my nan for sunday lunch and an afternoon walkng the dog.

I'm living the rock and roll dream.

I'm kinda in two minds about this news.

I won't personally miss it as I watched it scarcely, but I do agree it is a great institution and almost a british tradition, just like Grandstand and it's sad to see both of these go (though probably more so with Grandstand).

Well Grandstand technically isn't going anywhere. It's just a rebrand (or rather de-brand) of BBC Sport so all the exact same sports will be on at the exact same times just not called Grandstand anymore

Are you confusing Fern Cotton with Steve Wright?

Blonde.. tits.. nice legs..... Could be, I suppose.... Oh wait a minute... nope, definitely Fern Cotton ;)

So long as you turn the sound off whenever she opens her gob, she's not 'arf nice to look at ;)

No, you miss my point. Steve Wright does TOTP2. Fearn does normal TOTP and the also cancelled kids version

Gotcha. Thought she'd been relegated to the TOTP2. I think they're right about TOTP having had its day though...

No the whole show was relegated to BBC2 and totp2 got scrapped if I remember correctly.

Maybe it's the new Top Gear ... it'll be back in a couple of years in a completely new unheard format for a music show...

It's already had a go of "Top Gear-ing" itself as "All New TOTP" and failed.

Yeah but it didn't disappear for a year or so like Top Gear ...

Doubt it will be back though. But Top Gear is an all new approach to a motoring magazine. Who knows, maybe TOTP could come back with new features, more fun appealing to music fans in the same way Top Gear appeals to motoring fans. Let's face it there's more to pop acts etc than just the tunes ... there's a whole world to explore.

Doubt it though!

I quite like Top Gear, yet I'm not a huge follower of the motoring industry. I just wish Clarkson would stop coming out with his political opinions every 5 minutes.

I'll be surprised if TOTP isn't back at some point. The Beeb seem to love bringing back things from the dead (Dirty Den, Top Gear, Dr. Who, Bill & Ben, Basil Brush... need I go on?).

I believe theyve even resurrected Postman Pat on BBC havent they? ITV got the revamped Captain Scarlet, I know that much, but treated it like crap schedule-wise.

That's everything up to Thursday done, I'll get t[…]
