the reason I ask being that I'd like to be able to record the hour long show I co-present on hospital radio so that I can then convert it into an mp3 on my computer. I've managed to upload about half of the last show I did onto this - http://www.icedt.podomatic.com - if anyone cares to have a quick listen, I'd appreciate it.

That's cos it is. Plug your recorder into the audio out jacks using the lead described and then, as long as you have the audio routed to leave the desk via the audio out (usually set like thsi as default), then you should get a good line level feed to you recorder which you can then record on.
