From the BBC "comedy blog"

That's all, Peeps
26th January 2006

Classy C4 comedy facing the axe.

Why do bad things happen to good shows?

Channel 4 is getting ready to axe the brilliant Peep Show in the face of mediocre ratings, according to the reliable telly trade mag Broadcasting.

Just 1.3 million people a week tuned in to the third series - and that was despite some heavy marketing of what Ricky Gervais has called his favourite comedy.

But all the expensive advertising was in vain - that figure was actually 100,000 down on the second series.

There is some good news for fans of the show's stars David Mitchell and Robert Webb, however, as they're working on a BBC TV pilot of their Radio 4 sketch show That Mitchell and Webb Sound called That Mitchell and Webb Look.

But it looks like one of the best comedies of recent years is to end because it just didn't get the audience it deserved. Shame.

its bad isnt it. maybe someone else, perhaps the BBC might get it. its on at the wrong time, friday nights at 10pm is when the target audience is down the pub. the sales of the dvds must indicate that its pretty popular.

I went to the pilot of Mitchell and Webb look, and it is brilliant (as was the radio series). If Peep Show is axed - and rumour has it this is just a publicity stunt, then their new show is a more than great replacement

The writers of Peep Show are fantastic, can;t remember which one but they also co wrote the very brilliant the thick of it.

Its really * annoying when wankers complain that there are no decent sitcoms yet when this gem comes along there appears to be no real support from management behind the project. Channel 4 can wank on as much as they like about 'ohhh we promoted it though.' That maybe the case, when the third series in maybe if you gave this great show more support earlier on you would be reaping the benifits as opposed to raping careers.

David Mitchell is a true God.

the guy which parodies alistair campbell is quite possibly the greatest comedy character ever devised.

Thing is, I've read conflicting reports about the ratings of Peep Show - I read an interview with the head of C4 comedy saying the ratings were up by quite a few, yet other reports say they have gone down.

If it comes to the worst, the last episode of Series 3 worked well as a last episode ever IMO
