Is the muslim faith that fragile? 'Why are you fighting?' 'Well, they drew a cartoon' GET OVER IT. Jack Straw has come out saying that the reproduction of these pictures is insulting. Insulting or not, it`s free speech. He should defend that right.
Religion? Who needs it?

Does being a cartoon mean that it's automatically not offensive?

I said cartoon because it is a cartoon. I don`t doubt it being offensive. I do however question the reaction it has caused. A complete trade embargo on Danish goods? If this picture is printed in the UK press, are we too going to be tarred with the same brush?

I love it how they conveniently had Danish flags on hand to burn.

Most of the OFFENSIVE banners all seemed to be penned by the same hand. Absolutely appalled that they weren`t arrested. How on earth did they get away with that? Disbelief at their belief.

Probably not. Other countries need us to live, they need our trade. It's like when Mussolini invaded Abysinia or whatever it was, we could have closed one of the canals and stopped trade, but we didn't because we needed their trade.

I havn't seen these cartoons..are they online anywhere?

Here is a link to the cartoons....

I cannot see why this has caused such outrage. There's no excuse for anti-Western banners and all of these people should of arrested and sent back home or locked up. Tony Blair (the soft git) should of taken control of this and put some law and order in place...... but no! If someone had ran around the streets with anti-muslim banners, they would of been arrested instantly. Where's the justice? A minority of immigrants are ruling this country over and I'm sick of living here at the moment.

it's offensive because any likeness of mohammed is sacreligious. is the reaction a bit much? yes. should they just forget the whole thing? it's not that easy. this incident has shown the great misunderstanding between two cultures- non-muslims don't see what the big deal is because they don't understand how offensive a picture of prophet mohammed is. the rioters don't understand that comics like these are a part of living in a democracy and that it's nothing to do with them as people. it's a tough situation. why isn't there this much outrage over beheadings and such?

Just what i was thinking. Last year i remember newsbeat saying somthing about an American guy being killed on video. And there was the whole Ken Bigley thing. But i think there is just so many happen over there now all they get (unless they are British) is a quick flash on the news.

i hope that it's not such a normal occurance that it's always on the nightly news. i just don't get how they can try to sell the "islam is a religion of peace" line, when they go around torturing and killing innocent people.

westerners pulling the whole "we're enlightened, so we're entitled to be offensive" thing is also distastefull.

I think I may be way off but was Mohammed not one of South Park's League of Super Friends...

you know the one.....with Jesus , budah etc ....all with super powers. I think Mohammed could shoot fire out.

Is that not a cartoon or does it not count for some reason.

cheers

Yes you're correct, the Super Best Friends were Jesus, Mohammad, Buddha, Krishna (aren't Buddha and Krishna the same person?), Joseph Smith, Lao Tzu and Sea Man, and yes Mohammad could breathe fire, but, how is breathing fire offensive?

Not wanting to turn this into a religous debate, but ... I think Hare Krishner is a reincarnation of Buddha (or the other way around), although it has been a long time since I learnt about it, so I could easily be wrong.

shhhhh!

Timmyyyy..

Those pictures aren't really..that offensive...there's a couple that stereotype Muslims as suicide bombers, but that really is how most of the west sees Muslims. They should deal with that, rather than protesting their asses off.

It's satirical, which maybe those who are ethnically challenged can't understand ;)

solon, are you purposefully obtuse? the cartoons, lame they may be, go against the core of islam. many of offended countries haven't gone through the traditional european enlightenment, where voltaire asks one to see the absurdity of it all and to have the ability to laugh at the church somewhat without diminishing one's faith. of course it's just easier to say, they need to get over it, but well... i guess that's the problem.

here's an interesting discussion about it.

That's everything up to Thursday done, I'll get t[…]
