plus having a copied CD is all very well... but it doesn't feel as good as having the actual cd, the proper thing, with the good quality covers and all that...

Can't say that actually bothers me, i dont sit and look at the CD/Covers. If it sounds as good as an original it doesn't matter if it's copied to me. Id rather spend my money on other things.

It could actually backfire because people wouldn't buy the CD because they can't copy it, so they'd just download all the tracks instead.

CD's are to listen to, not to look good. I'd rather spend the money i save on buying CD's on a good CD rack with a door or summert so you couldn't see the CDs.

I do agree with what your saying... maybe if they could stop the copying on to the computer, but would still let computers play the songs... but I suppose thats probably technically impossible.

Making a copy of any song, even if its just for you to listen to is seen as illegal as your making a copy of it. Which begs the question, are radio stations 'tecnically' breaking the law when they copy a cd on to their computer system to playout... but I am sure as they get sent the CD for free, and are paying royalties, the record company wouldnt care about that.

I thought it was legal to make copies of CDs to "back up" your music collection, so as long as you've got the original, it's ok? LIke, I was thinking of copying some of my CDs to listen to in the car, in case they get nicked, & so I don't have to keep taking them to & from the car.

Although no one actually cares, making a CD for the car is actually, technically, illegal.

Making any copy in any form, wheter or not you own the original or not, doesnt make a difference. When you buy the record you buy a copy of it, you don't own the copyright to it.

But as I said, as far as making a copy for the car is concerned, no one cares. The record companies have bigger fish to fry.

If big corporates are losing out because of your actions, chances are it's illegal, such is their stronghold on today's society.

I have made three CDs for my car, I doubt there are many exactly the same as any of them anywhere, yet it's illegal because I can go into HMV and pay £15 for the privilege of making my own compilation. I know which option I prefer.
