"I'm off my head on sugar". (R1 DJ Sara Cox, 26/9/08)
Ozzy Osborne sprang to life at 9 pm last night!! One of his first choices was "Highway to Hell" by ACDC. Earth-shattering. Had I been asleep, I wouldn't have needed an alarm to wake me up!!
Elton John was the next choice (beautiful - Mike Skinner, hang your head in shame!!). Fascinating to hear Ozzy is such a good friend of Elton's, and how he considers Elton such a good and generous man. Loved the story of how Ozzy was admiring a medallion around Elton's neck ... Elton took it right off and gave it to him.
Guns & Roses were the next choice (earth-shattering once again).
Beatles were next, his actual favourite band of all time. I liked Ozzy's comments at this point that music would always take him to a certain place in time, the fragrances in the air, time of day, exactly what he was doing, etc., etc... Lovely. Totally understood.
Loved the choice of "Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton (lovely). He thinks Eric wrote this after the death of his child. Ozzy showed for the second time surprising sensitivity in acknowledging the courage it must have taken to write this song.
Subsequent choices were Black Sabbath (he used to be the lead singer) and Deep Purple.
Next choice was John Lennon's "Imagine" (gorgeous). He remembered specifically being in Wales when he heard John had been killed. This was followed by Led Zepplin's Stairway to Heaven.
This slot was absolutely OUTSTANDING. I would have liked a bit more personal details, but his attitude towards other artists more than made up for it!! Well done, Ozzy!! He's never stopped, and is still touring to this day... check out http://www.ozzy.com
Marks out of 10 = 11. CHECK THIS OUT!! Fantastic!!
