Hey I've noticed that there is a lot of Polish people in UK lately. It's gone crazy. In Edinburgh alone there is apparently 45.000 polish people. What do you as native British people think about your opened work markets? Do you find so many foreigners annoying? Or you just don't bother? I feel weird coz almost every person that asks me where h'm from says: Yeah i have a mate – he's from Poland! (h'm not trying to cause any racist abuses or anything like that. Just want to know whats your opinion about so many foreigners in your country )
Thanks

I like foreigners. If they come here legally I don't have a problem with it, and actually welcome it.

I also like foreign tourists. Living in Shetland we get a lot of Scandinavians visiting, and it brings an atmosphere to the place you otherwise wouldn't have.

The only ones I have any problem with are the ones who come here to just claim benefit and do nothing else... also the ones who don't even bother to learn the local lingo (thats the same for ANY country).

chicago has a huge polish speaking community. there's a polish food company that prints all of its lables in polish and it's based in illinois. it's sorta funny, but it seems like 1/3 of chicago is party polish.

A lot of Polish people come into my work and they seem pretty pleasant, despite the fact they never smile.

The lorry park opposite my work is frequented by Polish people. They don't live here though.

I don't have a problem if, as someone else said, they get a job and earn money, but then I also have a problem with English people who sponge benefits off the social.

The number of Polish people who've moved into our town has made the local papers. They come for the factory jobs. In fact, one area has been unofficially titled "little warsaw" by the local post-office. It's great to hear russian, polish, german and czech when I'm wandering around morrisons, because I know every one of them has come to this town specifically to work.

Some day, by helping them, we'll end up raising the standards of the whole world, and hopefully when they're at the same economic levels as us ,we can take advantage of the free market and emigrate there. There are some fantastic beaches in Poland, the weather is often very nice, and the southern areas outside the towns are beautiful... very germanic, apparently.

I do agree that if they live here, they should at least TRY to speak english, though.

The polish people have brought some hard working ethics to the chav/manual labour jobs. We are in Europe and so are Poland. My advice to anyone who doesn't like it is to emigrate.

I don't know any foreigners so I can't/shouldn't really comment. I don't know whether it's because sub-consciously I don't want to know any, or just because there aren't many in my area

You probably don't know any because your area's notoriously racist, so they all stay away.

perhaps he just watches the news from time to time?

April->July 2001 Bradford Riots
Autumn 2004, research shows w. yorkshire one of the worst areas for racism over the past 3 years
Racist attacks in W. Yorkshire rise by more than 35% since the July Bombings 2005

This is true, although while not defending these racial attacks the July Bombings were carried out by people from....West Yorkshire! Like I say, I'm not condoning the single minded people who attack people due to there race, it is fair to say that blame lies with both communites (mostly white though, obviously)

Oh yeah, *slaps head* I forgot the bombers were from Leeds... That'd explain the rise in attacks then.

Still hardly an excuse though. People have a hard time grasping the concept that while the majority of terrorists are black, the majority of black people are not terrorists

How many black people sympathise with the terrorists though? We'll probably never know as the majority of them wont do it in public.
