In the last few weeks Chris has been mentioning "24" and to be honest I am now starting to get fed up with the constant plugging of this show.
I can not find one single explanation/review to what this show is about, Every website seems to think that the shows best point is that it's based in 'real time' (one hour of filming is one hour viewing). I've tried to pick up this show as it goes along but it is the most boring thing to watch halfway through the third series(I don't know, I'm guessing). Most other shows on TV show the whole program from the start, and if it doesn't have the pulling factor, ie you've got to watch every episode in order.
Also why do all the fans not like being told that x and y happen in three episodes time, surely it'll help you understand it all

I'm not dissing the show, as I'm sure that many people find it riviting, but I don't want to shell out £37(amazon UK series 1 box set) to find out that I can't stand the thing.

If anyone can explain what the show is on about please feel free to tell me what it's about.

*edit - evil post *

I used to hate it as well, then I actually watched one episode and was hooked just to see what happend next.

The reason we don't want to know what happens in 3 weeks time is that it might spoil the storyline in the next episode as we will know why someone is doing something, or that so and so will survive.

I got hooked on it from day 1. I still think Series 1 is still the best out of the 4. Im sure it will be repeated somewhere.

I have the ctu tone as a text alert and I thought I had a new message but it was Moyles on the radio.

Well, i cant speak for the other series (although from what I gather they are somehwhat similar) - but I'm around 1/4 through Season 1 - and basically it's just about a guy (Jack) who works for CTU - which is a group of essentially spies who work for the Government. The day featured is that of a "Presedential Primary" - which is just a drawn out election campaign. What's so important though is that is one of the candidates is the first black man with a real shot at the white house - but someone's planning to assasinate him - and someone from CTU is helping to commit this. This is where Jack comes in - he has to find out who is corrupt in CTU and stop the assasination. It also features his daughter being kidnapped by someone involved in the assasination.

So basically - its a drama about spys- but a damn good one. The "real-time" factor doesn't add that much IMO as most of the timing is rediculous and couldn't happen in real-life. The story itself is gripping though

I know this has practically been said but since I spend so long typing it lol:

Well, 24 is a real-time based program that is fronted by Jack Bauer, an agent working for the CTU (counter terrorist unit) I won’t go into the main storyline but it is all based around the American Primary’s (its part of the American election). David Palmer, the first black senate with a good chance at becoming president, is targeted for assassination by terrorists. Jack becomes the hero of the hour, in our eyes at least. To make matters worse Jack is told in the first episode that there is an mole at CTU, as well as the fact that Jack’s family have been taken hostage in a bit to get closer to the president. The endless twists of the story and keeping you on edge makes this, in my opinion some of the best TV to come out of America in a long time! I seriously suggest you buy it and start from the beginning if your anything like me u will b watching hours at a time.

Oh and don’t pay £37!! Pay £17 here:

Thanks both of you, that's the first proper explanation to what it's about. But it sounds a bit too complex for me, I'll stick with good ol' British programs now that's entertainment :D

Yeah it's not hard to follow or anything, but at same time you do have to watch all of em for total clarity. It ain't like a soap where you can miss it for 3 weeks, come back and watch 1 and still know whats going on.

Day 1: This groundbreaking thriller is a roller-coaster ride that unfolds in real time. From midnight to midnight -- covering a 24-hour day over the course of a season -- each episode will have its own resolution, but the clock will never stop ticking. The first 24 episodes take place on Presidential primary day in Los Angeles, where Jack Bauer and his elite team of CIA agents uncover a plot to assassinate Presidential nominee David Palmer. With only 24 hours to identify the killer and save Palmer's life, Jack must also deal with his strained marriage and the sudden disappearance of his troubled teenage daughter. The clock is ticking...

Day 2: Season two picks up approximately 18 months after the conclusion of the first season, and finds Jack Bauer, who headed the government's Counter Terrorist Unit, dealing with a personal tragedy. Just as his life is beginning to return to normal, now-President David Palmer reaches out to Jack, who is called upon to stop another terrorist plot with global implications. A nuclear bomb is set to go off sometime that day in Los Angeles, and Jack may be the only one who can stop it. But time is running out...

Day 3: Season three starts three years after the events of the second season. Jack has just captured and imprisoned a powerful drug lord named Ramon Salazar. Salazar's brother arranges to blackmail the US Government with the threat of releasing a virus that will kill millions if they don't set him free. Palmer seeks re-election to a second term, with a dodgy chief of staff, and a girlfriend who may not be telling him everything he needs to know. Will Jack survive this day? Or will it be his last...

Day 4: Eighteen months after the conclusion of Season 3, CTU has a new leader, Erin Driscoll, a steely government agent who made firing Jack one of her first priorities. After the explosion of a commuter train, Jack, who is now working for Secretary of Defense James Heller and also is romantically involved with Heller's married daughter, Audrey Raines, suddenly finds himself heading back to CTU for a meeting with Driscoll. Jack believes that the train explosion is a prelude for bigger things to come and as this day unfolds, he finds that his instincts are right.

That's why I don't have time to watch TV obviously. I'm mainly on here in the daytime though, and daytime TV is lame apart from Bargain Hunt.

theres a good programme about turning around failing businesses.

In one episode, a bakery owner deceided it might a good idea to put bread in the shop window.

with such business acume, I can see this person going all the way to the top...of the street looking for vegatation with sprouting £10 notes.
