The best way to cancel a contract if they won't let you out is to say 'as soon as this phone call is finished I'm cancelling the direct debit to you' - they'll try and argue it but as soon as they realise you're serious, they'll back down.

NTL still tried to charge me a full YEAR after id disconnected and after MANY many angry letters explaining their f*ckup to them, and even tried to set debt collectors on me... i did have to question why the debt collectors take NTLs business though, coz they told me NTL send them to people who dont actually owe them any money ALL THE TIME... if you ask me that s**thole operation should be shut down.
I know a couple of people who are using NTL but have
never been charged by them - once a guy even went round to check the bank details, took everything down and they're still not being charged.
