I was thinking the same last night, it's like God has a mission to rid me of all my television heros.... Ben Fogle had better watch out.

I love The Hamster, and Jezza and Slow James. I really hope he is ok - they said "serious but stable" - I think thats more promising than "critical", anyway.

He crashed at 300mph(ish), survived, and has a good prognosis. I reckon that must be the safest car in the world!

Thing is, when you drive something like that, you can always guarantee that in the event of an accident, the safety crews will be there within seconds, and how many people can say that...? Nothing is left to chance. No, you can never guarantee that something will go wrong, of course there is an element of risk, but that is why the paramedics are always standing by - it's the same with anything that's dangerous.

He's out of intensive care now... His condition has been downgraded from 'serious but stable' to 'stable'.

I love Richard Hammond. Not only is the chemistry between him and Clarkson and May superb, making Top Gear such a brilliant show, but he's also got a fantastic sense of fun and adventure. The race in Iceland was one of the finest bits of TV I've seen. His Braniacs series is also trying to turn our media-studies and history-of-art studying nation back onto the traditional track of getting kids interested in science. I like Adam Hart Davis, but I think the Hamster is following more in Johnny Ball's tradition of keeping the enthusiasm and love of science going for kids.

I, for one, hope he makes a complete and total recovery, and gets back onto our screens as soon as possible. There is no Top Gear without the trio of personalities. Having happened so close to here really brings it home. First Steve Irwin, and now Hamster... A sad few weeks for us all.

I hope Richard Hammond makes a speedy recovery, he is a great presenter who does all the exciting things on the show & it wouldn't be the same without him.

My thoughts are with him & those closest to him
