David wrote:Arctic Monkeys? F**k Off.

Should have been the Guillemots.

Ha ha ha.. the Guillemots? Don't make me laugh. They are sh*te.

Arctic Monkeys were the DESERVED winner by far. That album is head and shoulders the best album of the year - every song is brilliant.

I'm glad the judges saw sense and didn't award it to someone else just cos the Arctic Monkeys are "popular".

The Arctic Monkeys are far too over hyped. The album is alright yeah, but it's nothing special. I could name several albums this year that's better than the Arctic Monkeys.

Just because they got famous over the internet, it made a good story and as a result people latched on...

I agree about them being overhyped and them making a good story, but that isn't their fault. It shouldn't take away from their music, which is what the Mercury Prize is all about after all. I feel a certain amount of people are against them purely for the fact they are "overhyped" etc.

As for the album being "nothing special" I disagree. Its instant - the music and melodies are unbelievably catchy and lyrically it is superb. Bar Muse, I can't really think of an album that comes close this year.

Seeing them live for the first time the other week only confirmed this.

There's always been a debate raging within the music industry, about the authorship of the Arctic Monkeys lyrics. Some people believe Alex Turner was helped to write the album. Questions asked...How does he have know about 70s actor Frank Spencer and the Police song Roxanne, both of which crop up in songs? If his lyrics are so poetic, why is he inarticulate in interviews?
There are no songwriting credits listed on the album making their success look nothing more than clever PR. And as they started life on MySpace that would mean they are owed by Rupert Murdoch which explains quite a bit.

I just can’t see what the big deal is. There’s some undeniably great lyrics, a few good tunes, especially 'A Certain Romance', some good hooks. But it's very one dimensional, with little musical variety, and nowhere near worthy of anything like the hype it has received and I don't think there is anything in the history of music that would ever be worthy of this amount of hype.

Makes sence, personnally I struggle to see what track will be the next single, as the best three on there have been released. As for Sandi Tom she can stick her desire to be a prawn cracker in a cup of luke warm water and then dissolve away.

Lilly Allens Album is very good, but I am a bit confused, I have a six year old daughter who really likes the song Alfie, now that would be ok but for the continual "put number 11 on Dad" but I have to keep remembering to cough or say "idiot" at the appropriate point in the track when she ryhmes with fitted cap !

Yeah, anyone born in the late 80's couldn't possibly have any knowledge of anything before the 80's could they?

And they didn't start life on Myspace and aren't owned by Murdoch. If you're gunna offer an argument get at least some of the facts right.

Mafro you're a black Scot, and you think a northern accent is ridiculous... haha good one.
