Halifax is one of the worst banks I have had the misfortune to come across (not just my opinion either, quite a few members of my friends and family have had bad experiences) so I wouldn't bother putting any money in there.

Hate Barclays! but never had a problem with Nationwide.

I used to be wth an american bank years ago, they were excellent, they had personal bankers in the 80's, always knew my name, always had coffee, but closed most uk branches. I think they were called City Financial or something ~shrugs~ maybe Kendra would know?

Barclays are rubbish but when i get a permenant position at my current job ill have to change banks anyway

when i was with midland bank it was excellent, then they changed to hsbc.

6 months later I closed my account cause it was seriously rubbish

Let's not forget that in their greedy pursuit of profit for themselves and their shareholders, Abbey National have outsourced the answering of their telephones to somewhere in Asia.

So it becomes unable to get through to anyone who can make a decision. They have put poorly trained people in the firing line.

That's why Abbey's directors and senior managers are all bas***ds. And in particular the wan**r who came up with the idea of outsourcing the jobs in the first place.

Halifax are awful, I switched to Alliance & Leicester. Much better.

Some of my mates are with Halifax and have told me how awful they are.

Bank Charges left, right and centre for a whole host of pathetic reasons.
