I noticet that there are fiev people in here that know loads of things about radio and brodcasting and all that stuff so i've got a small question. I was listening to Moyles yesterday and there was a moment when he was queueing up a jingle (aleds voice) with a song. Do you know how does it looks like and how it works and maybe you know some software that will make me do the same thing? I be grateful for any help. Cheers

Basically he just cues the song up on a music playout deck, and the next on the next one, with the faders open. then waits for the first to finish, hits the jingle playout button then the next deck. you can do it on one system with a dual screen display and a good sound card going through a fader desk.

Do you mean, how does he hit the vocal? So song starts - then Aleds voice right up to the point where the song's vocals start?

This is usually achieved through playout software - each song has an "intro" time, so for example 20 seconds. Then Moyles has another jingle, say 10 seconds. So he fires the song, then sees there is 10 seconds left until the vocal so can fire the jingle.

It's pretty straightforward but the playout software is hard to find for free.

Alternatively you could time the intro yourself on a CD and your jingle and do it manually.

Well any playout software really. We used to use PSquared's Myriad but most will do it. You'll be lucky to find anything for free though I'm afraid :)

As a complete digression and nothing at all to do with anything yet mentioned in this topic; I just found on a random cassette I own, the end of the very first Sara Cox breakfast show, complete with the beginning of Simon Mayo's Mystery Years. It took me right back. I only mention this because I don't think it merits its own topic but it is 'Some radio stuff', so I thought I'd post it here.
