If you other plebs want something to compare it to - go any buy an LCD and plug it into your analogue arial and see :P

No thanks. HD is a niche market at the moment anyway.

You'll see the difference if you get it. We had normal Sky on our LCD for quite a few months until we got Sky HD and the difference is clear to see, especially in terms of Brightness on HD programmes. The standard Sky box and cables you currently plug into your LCD TV to provide your Sky picture simply aren't capable of making the most of the TV that you have. With the HD box and supplied cables you will see what your LCD is really capable of.

As my girlfriend said when we were watching the world cup 'it's like they are real little men' - it's that clear.

I know for a fact the Red Arrow are being filmed in HD, should be good to watch.

how do they film it in hd then?

so to watch a programme in HD it has to be filmed in Hd, shown on sky HD and then watched on a HD ready tv?

It has to be filmed on HD - but pretty much everything going into production now is HD. Certainly for major tv shows, films and events.

Sky HD or HD DVD or anything new that comes along, Blu Ray etc.

HD ready TV is needed yes, they are falling in price every month.

Then new products like the PS3 are (supposed) to have HD elements etc...Its the future! until something new comes along, but then look how long it has taken to get rid of analogue and to get everyone digital.

Surely they wont be forcing people to get HD though like digital...?

no sorry - that was meant to be a kind of comparison. Some people are scared that as soon as they get HD then something else will come along. I was trying to say, though technology is much more advanced now - its still takes a long time for changes to take place in the TV broadcasting land.

HD has been around for AGES - and there is so much invested in it that it isn't going to die anytime soon.

Indeed it has been around for ages... TFT computer monitors are pretty much as good most of the time.

They aren't designed to be seen from the otherside of your lounge or bedroom though.

Maybe not... but I watch DVDs that way on my 19" TFT with no problem.

Not denying they aren't handy but i'd never look at having one instead of a TV.

I've done just that... but then it is mostly a space-saving exercise too... has practical uses now I have a PC and a laptop too.

For HD you need 5 things.

HD Cameras - £Thousends

HD Production Suite - £Thousends

HD Receiver Box - £399/299 upgrade

HD TV - Just over £1000

Then you also need Actors which are perfect if, like most TV execs, you want to sell your programme using beauty. Because anything on a face is alleged to be visible - like a little dimple or whatever...

But it must be worth it, otherwise nobody would go to this much trouble.

Not always the case.

HD Camera - The cheapest Sony HD camera is down to about 1.6k already!

HD Edit suite - Final Cut pro HD on a mac will set you back £500 ish - 1.5k if you buy it all from scratch including the mac

The Sky HD box is £299 now - which aint too bad for what it is!

HD TV's - Loads under a grand now!

As for the slightest mark on their face being visable - That seems to be more of a myth than anything, plus thats what the makeup department is for!

Granted it still isnt cheap - but its a lot cheaper than Standard Deff use to be! (and in most cases still is).
