TBH I don't know what Rooney did to deserve that card. He definatly didn't mean to stamp on that player, how on earth was he supposed to avoid a pathetic Portugese player rolling around underneath him when he was trying to get the ball? (Play should have been stopped before it even got to that stage as Rooney was fouled) And I don't know about anyone else here, but Ronaldo running up gesticulating like he did would have pissed me off too. Rooney should have got a yellow at most.

I think it was deliberate, he was obviously frustrated at the fact that he didn't win the ball, and gave Ricardo a stamp when he set of chasing again.

It was never a red card, but all the same Rooney needs to calm down. Why on earth Sven played a 4-5-1 tactic is totally beyond me.

Not by united fans. You support the shirt and ANY player that puts on the shirt. Thats why I could never understand why Hargreaves and Crouch got booed while playing for their country.

We don't care whether he's hated by everyone else, just look what happened to becks after 98, United fans stuck by him and look how well he did in the following years. Ronny is a great talent and what he does for Portugal is up to him, he'll be judged by United fans on what he does for United!

I'm not sure y'know. United fans are not big England fans on the whole I know, but I was with a group of them watching yesterday and they never want Christiano Ronaldo to play for the club again. I think he is cheat, pure and simple. If you watch the replay, the ref blows for the free kick for the alleged stamp (I think it was harsh) and doesnt go to show a card. Ronaldo barges in trying to get him sent off, Rooney gives him a little push (suprised he disnt go down at that actually) and all of a sudden the ref sends him off.

As for penalties, it was always going to be defeat there. So annoying - England have played seven major tournaments in the last 16 years and been knocked out of five on penalties, one to a last minute penalty (Euro 2000) and another to a fluke goal.

Gutted.

Remember what happened to former Aston Villa defender Alpay during the Euro 2004 qualifer in 2004. He had a bit of a bust up with Beckham and never played for Villa again after that.

to be fair we didnt even deserve to get past the group stages with our dreadul performances, and if sven had taken defoe as well or instead of a player who he never played, we wouldnt have to go 1 up front.

I was sick of hearing Dave's arguements today, Ronaldo did absolutely nothing and now he's hated. It's ironic how people say he acts like a baby, spitting the dummy out, yet we're going to be blaming someone else for England getting knocked out for the next 6 months. England didn't deserve to get past the Quarters, so stop moaning.

The playacting to the ref is all part of the 'latin' way of playing football. South American teams especially don't consider it cheating, they just consider it as a tactic.

And yes,I think both England and Portugal suck and neither deserve to win.

What play acting though? He went up to the ref and told him what had just happened. If Carvalho had stamped on Rooney's balls, and nobody went running to the ref, everyone would complain that Carvalho got away with it!

Ronaldo is just being used as a scapegoat and to detract from the fact that England played awful throughout the tournament. The Sun went too far by with the Ronaldo dartboard poster, just as they did back in 98 with Beckham. It's basically encouraging violence towards him, and Alan Shearer's comments were unnecessary, I thought he was more mature than that, my opinion of him has plummeted.

Talking about "Oh Dear"...

The dozey mare two doors up who used red duct tape to 'paint' an England cross on the bonnet of her brand new white car has just found out how well it adheres to stuff. I'll try to get a photo of it.. She's now got a beautiful silver cross instead of her red one :D

Or just buy a bonnet magnet... They were going for 74p in Halfords here, even before the World Cup started they were that cheap.

Of course he is, at the end of the day, the blame falls firmly at the feet of the England team and the coach in particular. Ronaldo just done what any other high profile player like him would do.

It's Sven's fault we got knocked out, plain and simple. I don't doubt that England could have won the cup, but with Sven's dodgy selections and tactics we never really had any chance. I don't know how Sven managed to survive 5 years in charge.
