not harsh at all rooney's injury was a dream come true 4 him.

Anyway if Rooney's not fit it wont be the end of the world or the world cup for the following reasons:

1) Rooney aint the same player he was 2 years ago you are seriously deluded if you think he's gonna reproduce that form
2) He's had a crap qualifying campaign not scoring a single goal
3) He's had a fairly average league season missing chances which have either lost utd games or drawn games they should have won
4) England couldn't beat Northern Ireland with Rooney what makes us think he'll help us beat the likes of brazil and argentina?
5) He couldn't score at home against sunderland
6) Owen doesn't like playing with him he much prefers a big target man like crouch or heskey
7) Hopefully Crouch will play in Rooneys place i know he's crap but the south americans will hate playing against him he'll cause shit loads of problems 4 them and having a big man upfront will be playing to Beckhams strengths
8) Denmark and Greece have won major tournaments against world class opposition without a Wayne Rooney
9) his temperament is still vey suspect
10) we beat Germany 5-1 without Rooney

But even the star player of that night is not at his best...
I agree with the fact that the whole England team shouldn't revolve around him. And it shouldn't "rest all on his shoulders" becuase that is way too much pressure.
However it does really dampen our chances of winning the world cup, with the players that we have. This is probably the best chance that we have had of winning it for a very long time. But people must remember there is more than Rooney hurt. Bridge, Ashley Cole, Michael Owen, John Terry are also still unfit/hurt. So it's not just one player we are on about here...

Dickie. wrote:Ferguson warns Eriksson on Rooney

It would be harsh to say Fergie is stopping Eriksson from taking him.

I do agree with Fergie for once here.

nobodys saying Rooney should play if he's not fit all svens saying is he should be in the squad in case he recovers in time to play some part. why should fergie have a problem with that?

Fergie thought that all the pressure on him and the "it all depends on him" attitude was stupid before he was injured. So it would be the last thing he needs on his mind when he is kicking a ball with keeping his foot safe in mind. Imagine how he would feel if he got hurt again while playing for England and the whole nation built their hopes around him?

it should be up to rooney if fergie stops him he should put in a transfer request i'm sure chelsea would love to have him.

It will be up to him in the end i think. Even if he hurts himself in the WC. He would still be able to be a big part of Man U's season, talking on the fact that he would hurt the same bone in his foot again.
It is rare for me to side with Fergie but he is right. A fitter player would be more effect, if Rooney dosent alter much from his current state then you may as well not bother. It is as Mafro said, look what Beckham was like...

Nah, I think if he's stupid enough to hurt himself in the toilet he doesn't deserve to play at all.

Surely for a footballing squad going to the World Cup it would be better for them to just say 'he's not fit, so he's not in the squad' rather than all this umming and aahing about the exact day that Rooney's going to be fit again, because that's what the papers and the nation will be like if he gets taken to Germany.

i don't get it. is it because there's no one else on the team that can really get your nation to rally behind them? what's with ericksson's infatuation with beckham? owen, can be ok but i wouldn't hold out. rooney, when he's healthy, isn't stable enough. so what do you have left?

not another world cup, that's what.

if sven plays anything other than route 1 then he is playing to our weaknesses. the reason we havn't won the world cup in 40 years is a succession of managers who mistakenly believe english players can play football. apart from gazza i cant think of any other english player that would have made it into any brazillian team from the last 40 years.
