From the BBC "comedy blog"
That's all, Peeps
26th January 2006
Classy C4 comedy facing the axe.
Why do bad things happen to good shows?
Channel 4 is getting ready to axe the brilliant Peep Show in the face of mediocre ratings, according to the reliable telly trade mag Broadcasting.
Just 1.3 million people a week tuned in to the third series - and that was despite some heavy marketing of what Ricky Gervais has called his favourite comedy.
But all the expensive advertising was in vain - that figure was actually 100,000 down on the second series.
There is some good news for fans of the show's stars David Mitchell and Robert Webb, however, as they're working on a BBC TV pilot of their Radio 4 sketch show That Mitchell and Webb Sound called That Mitchell and Webb Look.
But it looks like one of the best comedies of recent years is to end because it just didn't get the audience it deserved. Shame.
