The Chris Moyles Show: With Scott Mills (October 3rd - 14th 2005) [Posted Friday, September 30 2005 by MC_]
Good mornin’.
Yep, Scott is off the subs bench again in Chris’s absence - and playing for the first team. He’s on Breakfast with Chappers and co for the next fortnight - with Spoony ludicrously on for Scott at 4pm. Yet another reason not to listen to Radio 1 in the afternoon then, as if anymore were needed.
To quote Roy Walker, I’m off to uni to become a “sponging student”.. so will hopefully recover from Freshers Week and find an Internet connection, in time to be with you with more Tedious Links in a few weeks.
Till then, if you’re bored of Mills - check the Sound Vault. Or buy a compact disc of songs you like. Thanks.

- SEAMLESS?: - “No no no no no” as Greyhead used to say: *Magnus Hedman has never ever played for Blackburn Rovers, although he has played for Coventry City and Celtic. Dave blamed the fact he wrote it very early this morning for his error.. |
TRACK INFO: - Released March 1986 - Spent six weeks on the chart, peaking at number nine. - MC FACT ATTACK: - Prince’s birth name is “Prince Rogers Nelson” in full. He's named after his father's jazz band, The Prince Roger Trio. - SEAMLESS?: - Yes, but Dave was incorrect when he added to Chris that the track was released in 1997 - that was their first hit “Walkin On The Sun”. “All Star” was July 1999. |
TRACK INFO: - Released July 1999 - Only peaked at number 24 and spent five weeks on the chart. - MC FACT ATTACK: - This tune is on the soundtrack to Shrek. According to some texter bloke anyway. I’ve only seen it once so can’t recall. - ALBUM DETAILS: - Check amazon.co.uk and their self titled debut album (as shown in the pic above), although it failed considerably to trouble (even the bottom end) of the UK Album Charts.

- SEAMLESS?: - Dave said he believed so, but Mr Tedious Links man here has a little quibble: *”Stayin' Alive” wasn’t a movie starring John Travolta - but was on the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever, which Dave might have been getting confused by. If Mr Travolta has done a film called Stayin' Alive and I just cant spot it on imdb then I do apologise... |
TRACK INFO: - Released February 1991 - Only got to 13 in the charts, spending 9 weeks inside the Top 40. - MC FACT ATTACK: - This track was voted 10th in NME’s “100 Greatest Singles Of All Time” list - published three years ago. - SEAMLESS?: - Yes. Cue Treasure Hunt...
|
TRACK INFO: - Released May 1994/January 1995/September 2001 - Got its highest chart position at number 2 in 1994.. has spent a collective total of thirty weeks on the chart though. - MC FACT ATTACK: - The vocalist on Set You Free is actually Kelly Llorenna. You know her? She had hits with that thingy cover.. er.. forget it. - ALBUM DETAILS: - Somewhat surprisingly, there is a “Best Of N-Trance” compilation in existence.. which is available to purchase should you for some inexcusable reason decide to do so. If you do, don’t visit this page again. Ever. You’re not welcome.

 | Kylie Minogue Shocked - Shocked is what you’d be if you were stupid enough to stick your fingers in a leccy socket - “Socket” rhymes with “locket”, which is something a girl might wear around her neck - Neck is also the part of the body around which you’d wear a scarf or a tie - “Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport” was a 1960 hit for Rolf Harris - Rolf Harris is a great artist, a bit like Leonardo da Vinci - Leonardo da Vinci shares the same christian name as Leonardo DiCaprio, who starred in “Titanic” and also in the film “The Beach” - The soundtrack to The Beach featured the beautiful Pure Shores by All Saints - All Saints’ Nat and Nic Appleton both have other halves called “Liam” - “Liam” is also the first name of actor Liam Neeson, who starred in “Love Actually” alongside Hugh Grant and Martine McCutcheon - Martine McCutcheon used to play Tiffany in EastEnders - EastEnders is set in the fictional East London postcode of E20 - 20 is a multiple of the numbers 2, 5, 10 and 4 - and 4 is the exact number of letters that make up the name “Beck” - Which links us to classic Beck and the beautiful Loser
- SEAMLESS?: - Try to contain your shock, but there was a mathematical problem: *20 isn’t a multiple of 2, 5, 10 and 4 - they are multiples of 20. 20 is divisible by those numbers, but not A multiple of them. So basically Dave got it right in his head but messed up the terminology. |
TRACK INFO: - Released March 1994 - Got to number fifteen and spent six weeks on the chart.. - MC FACT ATTACK: - The chorus of "Soy un perdedor" is Spanish for "I'm a loser”.. which I would be for knowing that, had I not nicked it from another site. - ALBUM DETAILS: - Track 1 on his April 94 number 41 debut “Beck: Mellow Gold”. Available in all good music retailers I’m sure. Just try your local HMV or Music Zone.

 | Bob Marley & The Wailers No Woman No Cry - The original version of “No Woman No Cry” was taken from the album “Natty Dread”, which was released in 1974 - 1974 was the year that Robbie Williams was born - “Born In The USA” was a big hit for Bruce Springsteen - Bruce Springsteen is a celebrity singer who has an underbite, and in that respect shares something in common with George Michael - George Michael shares one name in common with Michael Douglas, who is married to Catherine Zeta-Jones - Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas have a son called “Dylan”, who I think is named after Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, who wrote “Under Milkwood” - “Wood” is the surname that links comedienne Victoria with Rolling Stone Ronnie - Before joining The Rolling Stones, Ronnie Wood was in The Small Faces along with Rod Stewart - Rod Stewart had a big hit with “Sailing”, which is what Ellen MacArthur has done all around the world - “All Around The World” was a number one for Oasis in 1998, and holds the record for being the longest song to top the charts, with a duration of nine minutes thirty eight seconds - Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher once got in trouble on a Cathay Pacific flight back from Australia - and Australia is where Kylie Minogue is from - Which links us to a bit of classic Kylie Minogue action and Shocked
- SEAMLESS?: - Yes... I think: *Although according to my sources that Bob Marley album was released in October 1975, not 1974. They may well be wrong though. |
TRACK INFO: - Released June 1991 - Seven weeks on Mark Goodier’s Top 40 chart (yes he did present it in 91’), peaking at number six... - MC FACT ATTACK: - This was the thirteenth successive Kylie track to reach the top ten, thus making it the best ever chart start for a female solo artist in this country. Yet to be beaten too I think. Fact. - ALBUM DETAILS: - Get it on various Greatest Hits compilations, or on Kylie’s third (top 9) album “Rhythm Of Love”, released in November 1990.

 | Ash Girl From Mars - Mars is a planet in the galaxy, a bit like Jupiter, Saturn and Venus - “Venus” was originally a 1986 hit for Bananarama, and was then covered four years later by Don Pablo's Animals - Animals are what Dom likes to visit at the zoo - “Zoo” rhymes with “moo”, which is the noise you’d associate with a cow - Cows make pat - “Pat” is the first name that links EastEnders’ battleaxe Butcher, with Aussie tennis star Cash - Pat Cash also plays the guitar, which is a popular instrument in Spain - Spain is where the Beckhams’ now live - Victoria Beckham used to be in the Spice Girls, along with the two Mel’s, Emma and Geri - “Gerry” was the war time nickname for the Germans - Germans are big fans of beer and sausage - Sausage is a good thing to make a sandwich out of, by simply adding bread - If you swap the first letter of “bread” for a D you get “dread”, as in dreadlocks - and dreadlocks are something you’d associate with the late Bob Marley - Which links us to a bit of classic reggae action, Bob Marley & The Wailers and No Woman No Cry
- SEAMLESS?: - Not in the actual link itself, but there was a huge balls up with the track there to play: *For some unknown reason, the mix in the computer sounded more like a spoof Phoenix Nights version, rather than the live performance most well known... to Dave’s obvious dismay, Rob the trucker (and hundreds more) text in saying “I’m in fits of laughter”. Chris said the moral of the story was that if you’re ever on the radio, play the live version of No Woman No Cry, not the other version (which might possibly be the original.. they didn’t know). |
TRACK INFO: - Released September 1975 - Got to number 8 and spent 18 weeks inside the Top 40.
- MC FACT ATTACK: - How does Bob Marley like his sandwiches? ...
With Jammin! ... *click to play*
I’ll get my coat.

 | The Beatles Long And Winding Road - The Beatles’ “Long And Winding Road” was covered by Will Young a couple of years ago - Will Young shares the same surname as Paul Young, who’s from Luton - Luton won 1-0 this weekend at Hull - If you swap the first letter of “Hull” with it’s alphabetic next door neighbour G, you get “gull”, which is a type of bird - “Bird” or “Doing bird” is a slang expression for doing a prison sentence - A sentence of a different type is something that would contain punctuation, such as commas, apostrophe’s and full stops - Stops are what you’d find along a bus route - Root, albeit spelt differently, is something that trees and teeth share in common - “Common People” was a hit for Pulp - Pulp are fronted by Jarvis Cocker - Jarvis Cocker shares the same surname as fellow Sheffield singer Joe Cocker, who duetted with Jennifer Warnes on “Up Where We Belong”, which was taken from the soundtrack to the film “An Officer And A Gentleman” - “Gentleman” is what you’d see written on the toilet door if you were a boy, while “ladies” is what you’d see if you’re a girl - and “Girl From Mars” was a hit in 1995 for Ash - Which links us to a bit of classic Ash action... Ash and a Girl From Mars
- SEAMLESS?: - Dave said it was all positive on the text, although I have a very pernickity query: *Pulp aren’t fronted by Jarvis Cocker anymore really are they? They have sort of split up so I would have used the past tense there.
|
TRACK INFO: - Released August 1995 - Criminally only got to number 11 in the charts, spending 5 weeks on the countdown... - MC FACT ATTACK: - Scary to think Tim and Mark from Ash were only 18 when this track was released a decade ago. This was their debut Top 40 hit, although their first actual single release was “Jack” in February 1994. For anyone suffering Ash withdrawal symptons, then check out Charlotte Hatherley’s solo stuff at the minute - saw her live at Leeds Festival, very good. - ALBUM DETAILS: - On the debut Ash album “1977” (the year Tim and Mark were born), which went straight in at number one when released on the British public back in May 1996.

 | Kate Bush Running Up That Hill - Kate Bush is mates with Peter Gabriel, who used to be in Genesis - Genesis is one of the chapters in the Bible - The Bible is the one book that you’ll find in a hotel room, because the gideons put it into the drawer next to the bed - “Bedshaped” by Keane was taken from their album “Hopes And Fears” - If you add “Tears For” to the front of Fears you get “Tears For Fears”, who consisted of Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith - Curt Smith shares the same christian name as Kurt Russell, who’s the other half of Goldie Hawn, whose daughter Kate Hudson is married to Chris Robinson from The Black Crowes - The Black Crowes’ 1992 album “Southern Harmony And Musical Companion” featured the fantastic track “Remedy” - A remedy is what a doctor might give you and is not dissimilar to a cure - The Cure had a 1986 hit with “Boys Don’t Cry” - “Cry” is a word associated with wolf - Wolf was one of the Gladiators - Gladiators was hosted by John Fashanu, who also appeared in the jungle in “I’m A Celebrity...”, which was hosted by Ant and Dec - Ant and Dec are from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne - and Newcastle-Upon-Tyne is where we’ll be beginning the thirteen mile half marathon that is The Great North Run this Sunday, as we navigate the “long and winding road” to South Shields - Which links us to The Beatles and The Long And Winding Road
- SEAMLESS?: - Of course... not: *Genesis is like a book, not a chapter in the Bible or something. Dave said “it’s a component part. Fact.” (good enough for me). *A remedy is a treatment not a cure apparently. *Also (spotted by me), Curt Smith and Kurt Russell only share the same name phonetically, which Dave didn’t point out. Thanks. |
TRACK INFO: - Released N/A (Only by Gareth Gates & Will Young.. *murdered*). - N/A - MC FACT ATTACK: - There is no fact cos its after midnight and I’m bored to death of looking for facts. Fact. - ALBUM DETAILS: - The final track on the November 2000 Beatles compilation “1”... probably like the greatest CD compilation ever. That’s it.

 | Bryan Adams Run To You - Bryan Adams is Canadian, as is the beautiful Evangeline Lilly, who plays Kate in “Lost” - “Lost In Music” was a hit for Sister Sledge, as was “We Are Family”, while “Family Affair” was a hit for Mary J Blige - “Blige” is an anagram of “bilge”, which is a nautical term to describe the rounded portion of a ship's hull - Hull is a city on the river Humber - If you replace the H of “Humber” with an L you get “lumber”, which is the lower region of the back - “Back In The USSR” was a 1976 hit for The Beatles - The only two surviving members of which sadly are Ringo and Paul McCartney - Paul McCartney performed at Maida Vale on Monday night, as part of Zane Lowe’s “Legends Week”, which also features performances from The Prodigy and Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden knocked us out of this years celebrity Soccer Six tournament, which was held at West Ham - West Ham beat Villa 4-0 on Monday night with an astonishing Premiership hatrick from Marlon Harewood - Marlon Harewood shares the same surname as Marlon Brando, who is a famous actor, a bit like Kevin Kline - If you add an "in" to the front of Kline, and swap the K for a C, you get “incline”, which is a word associated with hills, of which there are many on The Great North Run - and when we do the run on Sunday, we will be running up that road and running up those hills, just like the famous record by Kate Bush - Which links us to Kate Bush and Running Up That Hill
- SEAMLESS?: - Not quite nope: *Marlon Harewood and Marlon Brando share the same christian name, not surname. *Also, Marlon Brando “was” a famous actor, not “is” a famous actor, as he died last year. |
TRACK INFO: - Released August 1985 - Went top three (unbelievably) and spent eleven weeks on the countdown. - MC FACT ATTACK: - Kate Bush’s new album is due out on November 7th.. twelve years after her last one. I don’t know much by her I’ll admit, but if it’s half as dull as this track then she shouldn’t bother. - ALBUM DETAILS: - From September 85’s number one album “Hounds Of Love”... uh oh uh oh oh uh oh! (etc)..

 | Yello The Race - Yello are from Austria - The capital of Austria is “Vienna”, which was also the title of the biggest hit by Ultravox - Ultravox were fronted by Midge Ure, who organised Live 8 with Bob Geldof - Bob Geldof shares the same initials as Barry Gibb, who was the tall, hairy one out of the Bee Gees - The Bee Gees are brothers, a bit like The Osmonds - The Osmonds are also Mormons, which is a type of religious group, a bit like the Amish People, who don’t drive cars or watchy telly and stuff, and actually was their clothes with a mangle - “Mangle” was the surname of Joe Mangle in Neighbours, who was played by the actor Mark Little - Mark Little shares the same surname as Stuart Little, who is a mouse - The plural of mouse is mice - If you swap the M from “mice” with an R you get “rice”, which is a type of carbohydrate like pasta and bread and stuff - Carbohydrates are a good thing to eat if you’re doing a big long run, like The Great North Run, which we’re doing this Sunday, you’ve probably heard - and if you came to the Great North Run to cheer us on, and were stood on the finish line, we would literally “run to you”, like the famous running anthem from Bryan Adams, Run To You - Which links us to todays clever athletics based Tedious Link track Bryan Adams and Run To You (bob on)
- SEAMLESS?: - Couple of minor major problems today Dave: *Yello are from Switzerland, not Austria. *Bob Geldof’s initials are R.G, as in “Robert Geldof”, not Bob Geldof. *Mangles are used to dry not wash clothes. Dave argued something about them being involved in the washing process.. and then I lost interest. *Also, and I do like this record, but is it really a “running anthem?” Discuss amongst yourselves. |
TRACK INFO: - Released January 1985 - Spent 12 weeks on the chart, just peaking short of the top ten at number 11. - MC FACT ATTACK: - This was Bryan Adams’ debut UK hit single, 248 months ago back in January 1985. - SEAMLESS?: - “Not quite, no” to quote the Tedious one himself: *Marky Mark was in The Funky Bunch, not New Kids On The Block. Dave’s wife Emma went to see New Kids On The Block at the NEC in Birmingham y’know... fascinating. |

 | Pearl Jam Alive - Pearl Jam are fronted by gravel voiced legend Eddie Vedder - Eddie Vedder shares the same christian name as Eddie Halliwell, who in turn shares the same surname as Geri Halliwell, who was known as “Ginger Spice” - Ginger the root is used extensively in Chinese cookery - One of the leading names in the foeld of Chinese cookery is Ken Hom - If you add an E on the end of the word “Hom” you get “home”, which in the world of sporting fixtures is the opposite of away - “Away In A Manger” is a good example of a Christmas carol - Carol Vorderman is dead smart and really good at Maths - “Maths” is an abbreviation of the full word, which is “Mathematics” - “Mathematics” shares many of the same letters as “Bass-O-Matic”, who had a 1990 hit with “Fascinating Rhythm” - It’s quite fascinating that the word “rhythm” contains no vowels - and when you look at the names of all of the people who work on this show, the only one whose name doesn’t contain any vowels is executive producer Rhys - Rhys is from Lincoln, which isn’t far away from Grantham - Grantham is where Maggie Thatcher is from, and she had problems with the miners - and this whole problem with the miners reached a peak in 1984, when the miners decided to go on “strike” - Which links us to Strike and U Sure Do
- SEAMLESS?: - Seamless for Friday. There’s some kind of cricket reference to be made there but I can’t be arsed. |
TRACK INFO: - Released December 1994 & April 1995 - In two seperate entries, the track clocked up over 15 weeks on the chart and a top 4 position. Deserved it too. - MC FACT ATTACK: - I don’t have a fact about this song. Just an opinion. It’s bloody brilliant. - ALBUM DETAILS: - Get it on “Back To The Old Skool: Club Classics”. Have it large everyone. Or something.

 | Ian Brown F.E.A.R - Ian Brown shares the same surname as Gordon Brown, who is the Chancellor Of The Exchequer - The Chancellor Of The Exchequer does the budget thing every year, where he puts up the price of fags and bitter and petrol and stuff - The price of petrol fluctuates depending on the international price of crude oil - Oil is sold in a barrel - “Barrel” rhymes with “Carol”, as in Carol Smilie, who is from Glasgow - Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland - Scotland last night won 2-1 in Norway - The capital of Norway is Oslo - If you add an E to “Oslo” and then re-arrange the letters, you get the word “lose”, which England did last night against Northern Ireland - Northern Ireland is where Colin Murray is from - Colin will be here with Edith from 1 - “One” was a 1992 hit for the band U2 - If you take the number two from U2 and then multiply it by the number of working days in the average week, you get ten - and “Ten” was the title of the 1991 debut album from Pearl Jam, which spawned the hits “Even Flow”, “Jeremy” and the classic track “Alive” - Which links us to Pearl Jam and Alive
- SEAMLESS?: - No, as Dave messed up his Oslo link: *He added an E to create the word “lose” when it wasn’t needed. It gave us “loose” instead. The silly billy. |
TRACK INFO: - Released February 1992 - Spent six weeks on the chart and cracked the top twenty, getting to number sixteen. - MC FACT ATTACK: - For those of you unaware, Pearl Jam were a big part of the early 90’s US grunge explosion, along with Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden. Kurt Cobain at one point attacked the group because he saw them as commercial "sell outs"; however Kurt and Eddie Vedder later made up and reportedly became friends. Fact. - ALBUM DETAILS: - It’s all in the link there kids. From 1991’s “Ten”. Go purchase if of that musical persuasion. Peace Out.

 | Missy Elliott feat. Ludacris Gossip Folks - Missy Elliott did “Car Wash” from the soundtrack to “A Shark’s Tale” with Christina Aguilera - Christina Aguilera used to do the Disney Club with Britney Spears, who’s now currently pregnant, a bit like Mariella Frostrup - Mariella Frostrup is Scandanavian, as is Magnus Magnusson - Magnus Magnusson used to present “Mastermind”, which is now done by Mr John Humphrys - John Humphrys shares the same initials as Jimi Hendrix - Jimi Hendrix is now sadly no longer with us, and in that respect shares something in common with King Harold - King Harold died when he got hit in the eye with an arrow at the Battle Of Hastings - The Battle Of Hastings took place in the year 1066 - If you add up all of the numbers contained within the numerical representation of the date 1066, you get 13 - Spookily 13 is the exact total number of letters contained in the words “The Stone Roses” - and the Stone Roses were fronted by the legend that is Mr Ian Brown - Which links us to Ian Brown and F.E.A.R
- SEAMLESS?: - No, but just the one mistake: *Magnus Magnusson is infact from Iceland - which isn’t part of Scandanavia, so thus he is not Scandanavian. He is Icelandic though, a bit like Björk. Thanks. |
TRACK INFO: - Released September 2001 - Spent just four weeks on the chart and only got to number 13, when it deserved much better. - MC FACT ATTACK: - Brown appeared in a cameo role in the film version of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), due to him being good friends with the director Alfonso Cuarón. Fact. - ALBUM DETAILS: - Taken from his third and highest charting solo album to date, “Music Of The Spheres” (number 3 in Oct 01). A musical genius and you should all own an Ian Brown or Stone Roses album. If not, “Ian Brown: The Greatest” (Hits) is out soon.

 | Queen A Kind Of Magic - Magic is the business of Paul Daniels, who used to host “Wipeout” - “Wipeout” was a hit for the Fat Boys & The Beach Boys - The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson shares the same surname as both Quentin Wilson and Steve Wilson, who used to present Live & Kicking - If you add an A to the front of “Live & Kicking” you get “Alive And Kicking”, which was a 1985 hit for Simple Minds - Simple Minds were led by Jim Kerr, who has a son with Patsy Kensit, who also has a son by Liam Gallagher, and is now in Emmerdale along with that bird who played Marilyn in Home and Away, who I think used to go out with Matt Le Tissier - Matt Le Tissier is from Guernsey - Guernsey is famous for cattle - Cattle are prevented from straying onto main busy roads with the use of a grid - The Grid had a hit with “Swamp Thing” in 1994, the same year that “Carry Me Home” was a big hit for Gloworm - A gloworm, as the name would suggest, can glow in the dark - “Dark” rhymes with “lark”, which is a type of bird, as is a chicken - Chicken is what you might buy from a butcher, like Fred Elliott out of Corrie - and Fred Elliott shares the same surname as Missy Misdemeanour Elliott the singer - Which links us, unusually for me, to Missy Elliott feat. Ludacris and Gossip Folks (Fatboy Slim Remix)
- SEAMLESS?: - Hmm. Kind of: *Apparently “her out of Emmerdale” left last night, although Dave and Emma were busy watching Location: Location: Location on the other side, so Vitty couldn’t confirm this flaw. |
TRACK INFO: - Released March 2003 - Got to number nine and spent nine weeks on The Official Chart, at the time presented by Wes. - MC FACT ATTACK: - The last time Dave chose this as Tedious Link was Friday 18th of March earlier this year - proving that this feature is now conclusively dead due to Daves choices being repeated in 4/5 month cycles. Anyway, the last time he chose it the track wasn’t in the system so Chris had to play 4 My People instead. The point being, two Missy Elliott tracks on the show OUT OF CHOICE this year is two too many, as far as I’m concerned. - ALBUM DETAILS: - You don’t care frankly do you. Plus I also refuse to promote Missy Elliott’s back catalogue in any way. Don’t buy her records people.. maybe then she’ll go away.

 | KLF Last Train To Trancentral - The KLF are also known as the “Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu” - If you remove one of the mu’s from “Mu Mu” you’re left with “mu”, which is a noise made by a cow - The plural of cow is “cows”, which produce milk - Milk is what you pour on your cereal - A serial of a different type is a multi episode continuing drama series, a bit like Lost on Channel 4 - Lost is all about the survivors of a plane crash - “Crash” was a 1988 hit for the Primitives - The Primitives are from Coventry, which is where Lady Godiva rode naked through the city centre on a horse - A horse has its height measured in hands - “Hands Up (Give Me Your Heart)” was a top 3 hit for Ottawan, and one of the fellas out of Ottawan has got a son who’s now in Daft Punk I think - Daft Punk are French - The French colonised much of Africa - and Africa has got many islands off it, with one of the biggest being Zanzibar - and Zanzibar of course is famous for being the birthplace of the late, great Freddie Mercury, off of Queen - Which links us to Queen and A Kind Of Magic
- SEAMLESS?: - Yes, I think so. Sir Robert of Williamshire was in though, so the post-link analysis wasn’t up to its usual detailed standard. |
TRACK INFO: - Released March 1986 - Spent eleven weeks on the Top 40 countdown, peaking at numero trois. - MC FACT ATTACK: - Today (as in Monday 5th September) would have been Freddie’s 59th birthday. FACT. - ALBUM DETAILS: - Get it on the 2002 triple CD “Queen - Greatest Hits I II & III: The Platinum Collection”... you Queens.

 | Robbie Williams Angels - Angels are what you’d expect to meet in heaven - “Heaven” was a 1985 hit for Mr Bryan Adams - Bryan Adams is from Canada - Canada is famous for geese - Geese fly south for the winter - The plural of “winter” is “winters”, as in Bernie Winters, who had a dog called Schnorbitz, who was a St Bernard - Bernard Butler used to be in Suede - “Suedehead” was a hit for Morrissey - Morrissey was in a band called “The Smiths” - “Smiths” is a name you’d associate with crisps - Crisps are sold in bags - Bags are what you’d be waiting for in the airport, if you were standing at the carousel - The plural of “carousel” is “carousels” - Baggage carousels in airports are identifiable by a number, such as say number 1, number 5 or number 2 - and number 2 bizarrely was the exact chart position reached by the KLF in May 1991, with their hit “Last Train To Trancentral” - Which links us to the KLF of course and Last Train To Trancentral
- SEAMLESS?: - Almost, but: *Smiths crisps don’t actually exist anymore, as they were taken over by Walkers. |
TRACK INFO: - Released May 1991 - A top 2 hit for the KLF, which spent 9 weeks on the chart presented then by Mark Goodier (for the first time)... - MC FACT ATTACK: - The KLF “retired from the music industry” on the 5th of May 1992, deleted their entire back catalogue, and burned all remaining merchandise to prove that this action was serious and not a stunt to sell more records.. FACT. - ALBUM DETAILS: - From the March 1991 album “The White Room”, which spent 46 weeks on the UK Album Chart... peaking at number 3. That’s it, have a good weekend people. Cheerio.

 | Fun Lovin' Criminals Scooby Snacks - Scooby Doo was mates with Thelma and Shaggy - A different Shaggy is a rapper who is mates with Rayvon, while a different Ray Von is mates with Max, Paddy and Brian Potter - Brian Potter shares the same christian name as Brian May, who is the other half of Anita Dobson - Anita Dobson played Angie in EastEnders, who was married to Den Watts, who’s now brown bread again, having been buried under the cellar of the Queen Vic under a load of cement - Cement needs to be mixed, as do cocktails - “Cocktails and Dreams” was the name of the bar that Tom Cruise’s character Brian Flanagan eventually sets up in the 1988 film “Cocktail”, which also starred Brian Brown - Brian Brown shares the same surname as both Jocelyn Brown and Bobby Brown, who is the husband of Whitney Houston - Houston is the home city of Beyoncé, who sort of goes out with Jay-Z, who’s one of the richest and most important and influential people in the world of rap music, along with Dr Dre and Sean Puffy Combs Puff Diddy - “Diddy” is a word you’d also associate with David Hamilton, who I think still does the pitch announcements at Fulham’s ground Craven Cottage - Cottage pie is something you might have for your lunch in a pub - and in a pub was where Robbie Williams was brought up in Burslem - Which links us to Robbie Williams and the classic Angels
- SEAMLESS?: - Dave’s rich vein of form stops here: *Concrete needs to be mixed, not cement - that is a constituent of concrete, under which Den is or was buried. *”Cocktails and Dreams” wasn’t the name of the bar in Cocktail, it was called “Flanagans”. Cocktails and Dreams was on a neon sign behind the bar apparently. I wouldn’t know, I’ve never seen it. |
TRACK INFO: - Released December 1997 - Only got to number 4, but spent a mammoth 27 weeks inside Mark Goodier’s Official UK Top 40. - MC FACT ATTACK: - This track sold 828,000 copies, is undoubtedly one of the greatest records of the last ten years, and was only Robbie’s fifth solo hit - at the age of 23. Robbie is also 9 days older than Chris Moyles (fact).. and will be on the show this forthcoming Monday after half 7. - ALBUM DETAILS: - Get it on “Life Thru A Lens”. October 1997. Number one. 123 weeks on the album chart. Nuff said.

 | Supergrass Alright - The video for Alright featured the band riding around on bicycles - Bicycles are a popular form of transport in China - “China In Your Hand” was a 1987 hit for T'Pau - The name “T'Pau” was taken from a character in Star Trek - Star Trek is set in space - Space were a late 90’s Scouse beat combo, who once did a roadshow with us in the pouring rain in Rhyl - Rhyl is in North Wales, which is where the Scott-Lee’s are from - Andy Scott-Lee is the one who’s going out with her out of Liberty X - Liberty X used to be called “Liberty”, and were actually formed from the rejects who never made it into Hearsay - Hearsay’s Suzanne Shaw has a baby by serial love rat Darren Day, who used to go out with Tracy Shaw, Andrea Boardman and Isla Fisher, who’s now with Ali G star Sacha Baren Cohen - Sacha Baren Cohen went to Oxford or Cambridge I think, both of which compete every year in the University Boat Race - “Boat race” is cockney rhyming slang for “face” - Face was a character in the telly show “The A-Team”, the title sequence for which featured an army helicopter known as a “Huey” - and “Huey’ is the name of the frontman from the Fun Lovin' Criminals - Which links us to the Fun Lovin' Criminals and Scooby Snacks
- SEAMLESS?: - Yes. Dave (by his own admission) is currently on a “rich vein of form”. |
TRACK INFO: - Released August 1996 + July 1997 - First time around got to number 22 (3 weeks on the chart) and second time around number 12 (5 weeks). - MC FACT ATTACK: - As if you didn’t know already, the opening sample in Scooby Snacks (the “any of you motherf*ckers” bit) is taken from the conversation between Pumpkin and Honey Bunny at the start of the genius, masterpiece that is Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction (1994). - ALBUM DETAILS: - From the Fun Lovin' Criminals July 1996 debut album “Come Find Yourself”, which went top 7 over here but apparently failed to do as well in the States.
